Baba Yaga is a literary character in almost all Russian fairy tales, where she is assigned the role of a terrible villain kidnapping children. But for some reason, among artists, the theme of fairy tales did not take root, since until the end of the 19th century, painters prefer to portray something realistic or classical, but not fairy tales.

Vasily Tropinin was engaged in painting portraits in a variety of genres, which could be completely different from each other.
